2024 in review

Post 24 continues to support local veterans and veterans causes in Eastern NC.

On March 12th the Post received an update from Sheriff Chip Hughes on the Sheriff’s Office actions to date.  Thank you Sheriff Hughes and your Deputies for the continued support of the citizens of Craven County.

In April Legionnaires Tom Davis and Bob Kaylor located the grave site/headstones for Donnerson and Hawkins in Cove City.  The Post donated money to support the upkeep of the grave sites.

April also welcomed the New Bern HS JRROTC unit to our Post.  The JRROTC unit hosted a unit dinner.

On May 22nd members of Post 24 went to Green Leaf Memorial Park In Trent Woods and placed flags at the headstones of the 1750 veterans buried there.

In June the Post sponsored a group of school children from the YMCA summer camp to attend the Wood Ducks baseball game in Kinston.

In August we donated $2000 to our scholarship with Craven County Community College.  The scholarship benefits Veterans, spouses or children.

August also saw the installation of the Post Officers for 2024.  District 6 Commander Hartman officiated.

October saw a sad note for the Post, Tom Davis the 1st Vice Commander and fine friend passed away following a home accident.

On October 26th we conducted our third annual Tom Hagan/Taco Bell  golf tournament at the  Emerald Golf Course in New Bern.  This is our big fund raiser for the year.

Thank You to the Hagan family for their continued support.

This we had 6 teams to participate, including a team from the New Bern HS JROTC.  The weather cooperated and it was a great day for golf.  Lunch was provided by Michael’s Pub and Patio located on Pollack St New Bern.

The play started at 1pm with a shotgun start and Captain’s choice format.

At the end all teams had a great day of golf and were pleased at the end when all players were able to get a door prize.  Door prizes were provided by donations from businesses located around New Bern and Craven County.  Prizes were awarded for closest to the pin, closest to the line and longest drive.  All prizes were for rounds of golf from local golf courses, thanks to Minnesott golf course, River Bend, Taberna and Carolina Colours.

Sponsors of the event helped make possible our continued support of a Veterans Scholarship at the Carven Community College in New Bern.  We also have money to support various veteran needs and requirements in our county and surrounding area.

Thanks again to our sponsors,
